Packs and odds

What's inside a pack, how tiers and odds work, how prices are set, and what happens when you open one.

One pack, one desk

Every pack pays out exactly one OTC Desk. There are no empty packs: when a pack's shelf runs out, it shows as sold out and can't be opened. The pack page lists every desk on the shelf, with its value, its tier and its exact chance of being drawn.

A desk's value is its floor (the cheapest price a desk sells for on Magic Eden, as of the latest market snapshot) plus whatever sits uncollected in its vault.

Tiers

Tiers are ranked within each pack, by where a desk's value sits between the pack's cheapest and most valuable desk:

TierWhere it sits in the pack's value range
CommonThe bottom half.
Rare50% to 80% of the way up.
Epic80% to 95% of the way up.
★ LegendaryThe top 5%: the chase.

Because tiers are relative, a desk's tier can change as desks join or leave the shelf. Each pack shows its odds per tier before you buy.

How the odds work

The more valuable a desk is within its pack, the less likely it is to be drawn. Its weight falls smoothly from the cheapest desk to the most valuable one, so the top desk is about four and a half times less likely than the cheapest. Most pulls land in the lower tiers, but every desk on the shelf can come out. The exact chance of each desk is on the pack page, and the receipt records the weights used for your pull.

How the price is set

A pack's price, in SOL, is the higher of two numbers, rounded up to 0.01:

  • Payout ratio price: the expected prize divided by the target payout ratio, 85%.
  • Replacement price (House packs only): what it costs to buy a desk back, the cheapest listing plus the 2% market fee (or a fresh mint, if that's cheaper), divided by 0.92 to cover costs and margin. The buy-back cost is capped at 15% above the floor, so a thin market can't push the price up without limit.

The pack page says which one set the price (Priced by). Its Total return rate is the expected prize divided by the actual price: 85% when the payout ratio sets the price, a little lower when the replacement price does.

Min guarantee and top prize

  • Min guarantee is the cheapest desk in the pack as a share of the price.
  • Top prize is the most valuable desk on the shelf right now, and how many times the price it's worth.

Pack kinds

  • House packs are priced so they can always be restocked. The House pack is the one the gacha pool refills with every desk it buys.
  • Forged packs are limited runs. They're never restocked: when the last desk is pulled, the pack is gone. The pack's creator gets a share of its sales.

XCAP luck

Holding XCAP, the xCanopy token, cuts the house padding in the draw: the price and the desks stay the same, so your payout ratio rises. Every pack page publishes the odds and payout ratio at each luck tier next to the open button, and your tier is read from your wallet on chain when you open. Luck switches on when XCAP launches. See XCAP.

Paying

On the preview you pay in devnet SOL, which has no value. Each pack is its own order: your wallet sends the price to the treasury, the server checks the payment on chain, and only then draws your desk. The reel shows exactly what you drew. If the pack sells out between your payment and its confirmation, the payment is recorded for a refund.

USDC from an EVM wallet is coming soon: it's only offered where payments are simulated, until the server can verify USDC payments.

Opening a pack

  1. Find a pack on the home page. You can search the catalogue and sort it by Featured, Price, Payout or Top prize.
  2. On the pack page, pick how many to open: 1 to 5 at a time, or Max if fewer desks are left. Each pack is its own payment.
  3. Pay in SOL from a Solana wallet (see wallets).
  4. Optionally, open Fairness and boosts to set your own seed. With two or more packs, each pull uses your seed plus "-1", "-2" and so on.
  5. Press Open pack (or Open 3 packs, and so on). Each pack tears open to reveal its desk, and every desk has a Receipt button.

Your desks go to your profile. The Just pulled ticker shows everyone's latest pulls, and Pull of the Day shows the biggest win by multiple of the price: from the last 24 hours, or a longer stretch if the day has been quiet.
